A Statement of Sympathy
In common with so many, we at Alchemy were shocked and disgusted at the death of Sophie Lancaster, which the media have dubbed ‘the Goth murder’. Our sympathy goes out to everyone touched by this tragedy, particularly Sophie’s mother who has conducted herself with such dignity, and Sophie’s boyfriend Robert Maltby, who not only lost his soul mate but also sustained permanent injuries in the same vicious, cowardly assault. Having catered to an alternative clientele for 30 years, we here at Alchemy are all too aware of the aggression and abuse some endure simply for looking different, and can only hope this appalling episode strengthens resistance to such bigotry. Many of us here feel pretty strongly about the case, and while it reflects his personal opinions only, we still thought some of you might be interested in reading the thoughts of Alchemy’s Press Officer Gavin Baddeley, at the Church of Goth Blog, the new platform for views and opinions outside of the remit of Alchemy as a design studio and jewellery retailer.
