Metal Hammers Golden Gods 2009
For the second year running, Alchemy’s demonic Golden God has proven to be a hit with both the exciting newcomers and long-standing legends at Metal Hammer magazine’s annual awards.
Lifted high by the likes of Slipknot and Saxon and lauded as ‘cute’ by none other than Def Leppard frontman Joe Elliot, our accolade of iconic design is fast becoming an object of desire for some of metal’s finest. Picking up the Metal As F**k award, Canadian rockers Anvil claimed it as their “first real award” in thirty two years.
Elsewhere, in between amazing performances by Devildriver and Anthrax, reigning kings of rock Iron Maiden were left to argue amongst themselves over just whose diabolical death-head was the best looking, while illustrious instrumentalist Steve Vai claimed the well-deserved honour of Riff Lord. To add the jewel to our proverbial crown,
Alchemy sponsored the coveted Best Event award this year, accepted by Steel Panther on behalf of the organisers of the 2009 Download Festival. If Best Breakthrough Act winners Amon Amarth are to be believed, pulling the miniature broadsword from its cranial anchor might just crown the victor as a king of Arthurian proportions – all we know is that each and every one of this year’s conquerors can claim themselves as a god in their own right. Here’s to 2010’s ceremony, Alchemy’s continuing support, and true recognition for rock’s ruling royalty!
